The Eight Basics of Watches Maintenance
A wristwatch is a precision instrument with over a hundred parts of different sizes within a square inch. Its unique complex structure and usage environment make its maintenance particularly important. From Xiaobai to gradually falling in love with a watch, in addition to discovering that one understands more and more, the relationship with a watch also deepens. So, we not only need to learn to appreciate the beauty of watches, but also learn how to maintain them.
1.Mirror maintenance
If the watch is worn for a long time, it is inevitable to produce some scratches, and some friends want to pursue a higher quality watch. In these cases, they can choose to change the mirror surface of their watch.
Changing the mirror surface is the most direct and simple method, but for most people, besides being expensive, it is not very convenient, so it depends on regular care. Even the wear-resistant sapphire crystal glass should be careful not to let the mirror surface of the watch come into contact with sharp objects to avoid damaging the watch. At the same time, it is also necessary to regularly check your watch strap to see if there are any problems, in order to avoid dropping the watch and causing damage.
2.Case maintenance
When wearing a watch, the sweat on your hands can have a certain degree of corrosion on the watch case. The steel watch case of the all steel watch case is made of nickel chromium alloy, which has better corrosion resistance. The half steel watch case is made of copper and is prone to corrosion due to long-term contact with sweat. Therefore, you should often use a soft cloth to wipe off the sweat or pad a plastic watch holder to prevent it from being corroded by sweat.
3.Watch strap maintenance
Leather watch straps are known for their comfortable and elegant fashion, especially in cold winter when wearing a leather watch. It is best to have two or more leather straps to replace them.
Metal watch straps and leather watch straps have the same drawback - they are afraid of water because water vapor can cause oxidation of the metal watch strap. If you need to clean it regularly, remember to remove the watch strap and clean it separately, use a professional cleaning agent, then wash it with clean water, and finally wipe it with a dry cloth before using a hair dryer to dry it.
4.regular maintenance
When maintaining the movement of a watch, there is a high requirement for the sealing of the watch case. If your watch does not have waterproof properties, impurities such as dust and water vapor can easily invade the inside of the movement. When mist is found on the watch mirror, it is necessary to remove the water vapor in a timely manner. Generally, maintenance should be carried out once a year or two!
If it is a watch with extremely strong waterproof performance, it is usually maintained every 3 years. Quartz movement watches also require maintenance, and it is best to choose to replace the battery 3 to 4 times before proceeding.
5.Waterproof maintenance
The vast majority of watches are marked as waterproof to 30 or 50 meters, but this does not mean that their watches are safe when placed in water depths of 30 or 50 meters. In the Swiss watch dictionary, 30 meters and 50 meters only represent waterproofing in daily life. Try not to let your watch get wet.
6.Anti magnetic maintenance
Many electrical appliances in daily life have a certain degree of magnetism, which may not cause substantial damage to the watch itself, but can to some extent affect the accuracy of the watch's timing.
So don't randomly place your watch around these magnetic appliances. If you accidentally magnetize your watch, it will usually move faster, and you need to go to a professional repair point to repair it.
7.Oil washing and maintenance
If the watch is used for a long time, the oil in the movement will become dry, which can easily form sticky oil stains and affect the operation of the entire movement. At this time, it is necessary to perform "oil washing" maintenance on the watch.
Washing oil "is a hard work task, and it still needs to be handled by a professional craftsman. Firstly, all parts of the mechanical movement should be disassembled, and the oil stains during operation should be cleaned with a special cleaning solution. After drying, the special watch oil should be applied, and the watch should be reassembled completely according to its original condition. After repeated testing and debugging, the watch function should be ensured to be consistent with before.
8.Windup maintenance
It is best to wind it up at a fixed time every day, and do not adjust the date between 9 pm and 3 am on the watch to avoid damaging the mechanical system of the watch, as the movement gear system may be in operation during this time period to change the date.
A watch that has not been worn for a long time needs to be wound once a month. If it is an automatic machine, it needs to be worn once to ensure that it can shake the strings, ensure that the internal parts of the watch are not in a long-term static state, and ensure good performance. Do not fully load the chain at once every time you load it, just add 9 points to avoid getting too close and causing the spring to break.
Don't just focus on wearing a watch, it's also important to learn how to maintain it!
